Through a series of events, Lala becomes a singer and is scouted by several production companies, rising quickly to satrdom. However, none of Miho's family or friends know of this, and Miho soon finds herself struggling to maintain her ruse. Miho does use her powers for her own gain, but also to solve problems and help out those around her. Sailor Moon is a long-running magical girl franchise with various anime, manga, and more. This post is intended as an overview. For information on how to watch it, including a breakdown of the different series, see HERE. ABOUT:Usagi meets a talking cat named Luna, who gives Usagi a pendant that transforms her into Sailor Moon, one of the Scouts who dedicate their lives to saving the Earth from evil forces. Soon, Usagi finds the other inner scouts - Sailors Mercury, Mars, Jupiter, and Venus - and the five spend their time developing their friendships, surviving school, falling in love, and defeating various villains. The story evolves in different ways in each variation, with the 'outer' senshi being introduced later on, and with different villains and slice-of-life plots. VARIANTS & STATS:ABOUT:ChaCha is a witch-in-training. She's clumsy, forgetful, and regularly summons the wrong thing (largely due to the words sounding the same, similar, or puns.) But when her friends are in trouble, ChaCha is the first person to lend a hand. ChaCha's friends are equally magical - a young boy descended from werewolves named Riiya, a sometimes-mermaid named Marin, ChaCha's somewhat-rival magician Shiine, and a number of other magical creatures in training, along with their teachers. ChaCha and her friends are given magical devices by ChaCha's teachers, which allow ChaCha to transform into the Magical Princess, which boosts her powers. And it turns out, she needs all the help she can get, as Daimaō and his minions intend to wreak havoc on the land! It should be noted the the first two anime series are completely unique and act as "Prequels." The third series blends stories from the manga with new anime-only ones, while the fourth and fifth series follow the manga arcs. This series is very light hearted, slightly romantic, and non-violent. It contains many ministories focusing on the problem of the day, with the main arcs being less important. There's plenty of references to fairytales, particularly Western ones -ChaCha for example represents Red Riding Hood! STATS:ABOUT:On her 10th birthday, Ririka's crush Nozomu tells her that he is from Queen Earth, a world overrun with pollution created by the evil Dark Joker corporation. Nozomu has been sent to regular Earth to find the Legendary Nurse Angel who can save them all - and as it happens, that's Ririka! Ririka is given a nurse cap by Nozomu, which allows her to transform into Nurse Angel, granting with magical healing and fighting powers. In order to save both planets, Ririka must find and restore the Flower of Life. Soon, Nozomu and Ririka are joined by the helpful Seiya - who secretly love Ririka - and the three set off on a magical journey to save everyone. This series has a heavy emphasis on global warming and anti-pollution messages, which is mixed in with coming-of-age and romance plots. There's some action, but it's considerably more mild than in similar series. STATS:ABOUT:Catholic school student Meimi becomes Saint Tail by night, who uses slight of hand and magic tricks to return things that were wrongfully gained or stolen. However, the Police see her only as a thief, as does her classmate and son of the lead detective, Asuka Jr. Meimi's family life is also unusual - her father is a Magician, and her Mother a former thief herself. This, combined with the Catholic school training, and her friend Seira who is a nun-in-training, lead to some unique moments in Meime's life outside of thieving. The series is known by a few names: Mysterious Thief Saint Tail, Phantom Thief Saint Tail, The Sweet Tales of Saint Tail, and simply, Saint Tail. CONTROVERSY:It's hotly debated whether or not this series is a magical girl. On the one hand, her shtick is doing magic tricks, meaning that they could theoretically be performed in the real world. However, her abilities and tricks tend to stretch well beyond the real of normality and possible physical feats - to the point of being comically extreme. Even canonically, some of these feats are considered highly impossible and potentially truly magical, and not simply sleight-of-hand as Meimi considers it. |
