ABOUT:As a baby, Yucie was adopted by a Knight, who retired to the country to raise her. Years later, Yucie - now a cursed 17-year-old stuck in a 10-year-old's body - is sent to the prestigious Princess Academy. Yucie, who was raised in the country, struggles to fit in - but she isn't the only one. Yucie, along with four other candidates - Glenda, Elmina, Cocoloo and Beth - must compete to find the Crystal Flowers that are scattered across the Human, Demon, Spirit, and Fairy realms. Each girl has her own motivations for doing so. Once the task is complete, the Crystal Flowers will complete the Eternal Tiara. The Tiara will then choose the Platinum Princess, who will rule the realms with great power, from the five candidates. Unfortunately, nothing is quite as it seems, and everything they want and believe in will be turned on it's head. At the same time, they must all complete the school's curriculum, which includes community service. Being from Earth, Yucie's magic comes from learning and magical objects, which puts her at a disadvantage to the others whose power is inherent. But Yucie's wit, positive attitude, and perseverance leads to the girls helping each other out in order to complete each task. This series is dramatic, and comedic, with many twists and turns. There is even a romantic side-story as well!

Sailor Moon is a long-running magical girl franchise with various anime, manga, and more. This post is intended as an overview. For information on how to watch it, including a breakdown of the different series, see HERE. ABOUT:Usagi meets a talking cat named Luna, who gives Usagi a pendant that transforms her into Sailor Moon, one of the Scouts who dedicate their lives to saving the Earth from evil forces. Soon, Usagi finds the other inner scouts - Sailors Mercury, Mars, Jupiter, and Venus - and the five spend their time developing their friendships, surviving school, falling in love, and defeating various villains. The story evolves in different ways in each variation, with the 'outer' senshi being introduced later on, and with different villains and slice-of-life plots. VARIANTS & STATS:Rated R16 - Contains fan-service, adult themes, and other content which may disturb or offend. ABOUT:26-year-old Ureshiko has spent her life protecting the town that she loves, as the magical girl Agnes. But the magical girl powers-that-be don't want a magical adult and send in a younger girl to force Ureshiko into retirement by causing chaos throughout the town. At the same time, Ureshiko faces normal adult issues. She's recently divorced and, having spent her life as a housewife, is exploring the world of adulthood for the first time. Plus, she's falling for a younger man - despite the fact her first kiss will strip her of her magic. There's a few dystopian and deconstruction-style story twists, but overall the series is a lighthearted and nostalgic take on what happens when a magical girl grows up. It does contain a lot of fanservice, often due to Agne's outfit being made for a child rather than an adult, as well as plenty of adult jokes and themes. STATUS:ABOUT:On her 10th birthday, Ririka's crush Nozomu tells her that he is from Queen Earth, a world overrun with pollution created by the evil Dark Joker corporation. Nozomu has been sent to regular Earth to find the Legendary Nurse Angel who can save them all - and as it happens, that's Ririka! Ririka is given a nurse cap by Nozomu, which allows her to transform into Nurse Angel, granting with magical healing and fighting powers. In order to save both planets, Ririka must find and restore the Flower of Life. Soon, Nozomu and Ririka are joined by the helpful Seiya - who secretly love Ririka - and the three set off on a magical journey to save everyone. This series has a heavy emphasis on global warming and anti-pollution messages, which is mixed in with coming-of-age and romance plots. There's some action, but it's considerably more mild than in similar series. STATS:ABOUT:Witches Chocolat and Vanilla are best friends and rivals to the witch world throne. To decide who succeeds, the two are sent to Earth to collect the hearts of humans, which give the witching world its magic. The catch - if they fall in love, they loose their magic! The two spend time in a human school, facing cultural differences and struggling with jealousy due to their friendship-turned-rivalry, as well as dealing with first loves. The concept is twisted, with the girls almost appearing as villains at some points of the story, but the comedy and plot twists regularly turn your expectations on their head. They face stigmas, discover inequalities within their own world, and are made to reconsider their own prejudices and worldviews. STATS: |
